Retail & Host

Location: Montpelier, VT

The Full-Time Retail & Host is a hybrid position that works closely with all Hospitality departments to ensure a great customer experience, with a primary focus on providing engaging, knowledgeable and professional service. This position’s primary function is helping to manage our reservation system and bookings, greeting and assisting customers, retail store customer service, processing payments and assisting the team with executing our food and beverage offerings on premise. In addition to helping with all key functions to maintain a clean and organized space: busing, dishes, stocking and daily cleaning projects.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of organization using our reservation and seating systems to ensure a smooth service, while maximizing capacity.
  • Greet & seat customers in a friendly, professional manner, following our outlined Steps of Service.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist customers upon arrival with their reservation, ensuring they understand our current guidelines and process.
  • Providing accurate and knowledgeable information about our current food & beverage menus, offerings and specials according to company standards, techniques and protocols.
  • Maintain routine table maintenance and points of service during guest visits.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks as required to maintain a high-level of cleanliness, order and safety in the Hospitality spaces, including the bar, kitchen, retail space, customer bathrooms and outdoor guest areas.
  • Assist with and perform assigned tasks according to the established processes, protocols and practices, including but not limited to: opening/closing all FOH and guests areas; cash drawer duties; style of service/guest interactions.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Vermont Department of Liquor Control rules and regulations as relevant to Server service, tastings and events.
  • Continually monitor and assess general safety and COVID best practices within the Hospitality spaces and outdoor guest areas (including parking lot), consult with staff and/or other management to effectively respond to and proactively address safety concerns according to proper/established protocol.
  • Operate within health and safety and Vermont DLC compliance requirements.
  • Respond to customer or team concerns with respect and with the intent to fully resolve the issue(s) of concern; report significant issues to management according to established protocol.
  • Maintain knowledge of the company’s products, distilling practices and history, and share the story of the brand with customers.
  • Assist with set-up, clean up, serving, preparing food and other tasks as necessary for on-site and off-site events.

Landcrafted Apprenticeship and Landcrafted Internship – Seasonal

Location: Montpelier, VT

Caledonia Spirits, the distillery behind Barr Hill Gin & Vodka and Tom Cat Gin, is looking for candidates for our Landcrafted Employment Enrichment Program (LEEP). This is a 6 month paid position at our distillery in Vermont, ideal for recent college graduates or those looking to change career paths. Candidates will choose an area of focus in either Hospitality and Bar, Production, or Sales and Marketing. All candidates will participate in weekly cross-learning experiences, such as distillery tours, farm and vendor visits, bartending and cocktail training, public relations, laboratory research, and much more. Hospitality Support

Location: Montpelier, VT

The Full-Time Hospitality Support position is an entry level position that supports the Hospitality functions by supporting the bar, kitchen, and retail spaces. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player helping with key daily operations and providing general and various support to the Hospitality team. The Hospitality Support position is perfectly suited for an individual that has some restaurant experience and is looking to learn more and gain experience working in a high-end bar setting.

  • Assist with and perform assigned tasks according to the established processes, protocols and practices, including but not limited to: opening/closing the retail spaces; cash drawer duties; style of service/guest interactions.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of retail items, bar items, and food and beverage stock by monitoring supplies during shifts and alerting staff of shortages or low inventory.
  • Assist in guided tastings and tours as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Vermont Department of Liquor Control rules and regulations as relevant to cocktail service, tastings and events.

Bartenders

Caledonia Spirits, distiller of Barr Hill Gin & Vodka and Tom Cat Gin, is looking for full-time Bartenders to join our team. Our bartenders provide exceptional and knowledgeable customer service while supporting the full scope front-of-house duties, including, greeting and assisting customers, beverage service according to operational standards, keeping the bar, kitchen and retail spaces clean, assisting with events and retail functions, and other tasks as assigned.

WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO

The following duties and responsibilities reflect the essential functions of the position, but do not restrict the assignment of additional tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Greet customers in a friendly, professional manner. 
  • Provide beverage service to customers according to company standards, techniques and protocols outlined in the company Bar Manual, including but not limited to: opening/closing the bar and front-of-house; cash drawer duties; style of service and guest interactions.
  • Assist Bar Manager, Lead Bartenders and Kitchen Lead with all aspects of service and cocktail preparation: mise en place. 
  • Staff retail space, assist customers, complete merchandise transactions, and provide customer service according to company standards, techniques and protocols.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks as required to maintain a high-level of cleanliness, order and safety in all of the front-of-house spaces, including the bar, kitchen, retail space, outdoor patios and the customer bathrooms.
  • Assist in monitoring and assessing safety within the bar and front-of-house spaces and consult with the senior bar staff and other management to effectively respond to and proactively address safety concerns according to proper/established protocol.
  • Operate within health and safety and Vermont DLC compliance requirements.
  • Respond to customer concerns with respect and with the intent to fully resolve the issue(s) of concern; report significant issues to management according to established protocol.
  • Active participation in research and development for menu creation and bar products.
  • Maintain knowledge of the company’s distilling practices and history and share the story of the brand with customers.
  • Assist with set-up, clean up, serving, prepping and other tasks as necessary for on and off-site events.
  • Lead guest tours, as necessary/requested.
  • Complete other projects and perform other duties in support of the company goals and objectives, as requested.
  • Attend required company meetings, training, seminars, landcrafted tours and annual company Summit. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required:  

  • Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the skills, knowledge, and      ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Valid Driver’s License 

Preferred:

  • 2 years minimum bartending and hospitality experience. 
  • ServeSafe Certification, BarStarts, BarSmarts
